artichokes in Cashiers

Artichokes besides being an eatable have great foliage. Second year plants which have been stored in a cold frame get large quickly in spring, bloom and form heads. Then they die back.

If the flower were removed the plant would continue growing. This would make it a candidate

for window boxes and containers.

There are a number of different varieties of artichokes. Each has unique foliage shape and color.

This year we should try a several varieties and select a favorite.
